The Local Area
We have put together a small selection of places in the local area that you may
like to visit while you are enjoying your stay with us at Jonas Farm.
Cromer
Just 1 mile from us, Cromer is a beautiful bustling seaside town known as the gem of the
Norfolk Coast. It grew up around the fishing industry and you can still buy the famous
Cromer Crabs directly from the fishermen on the beach. There is safe bathing from the
lovely sandy beach ideal for playing games or building sandcastles or you can just stroll
along the promenade.
Jutting out into the sea is Cromer pier on which there is a genuine End-of-the-Pier
show at the Pavilion Theatre which annually holds the World Famous Seaside Special,
Celebrity Concerts and shows from May to October. Behind the theatre is the new
Lifeboathouse built in 1998 which houses Cromers Lifeboat.
Each August Cromer holds what is probably one of the largest Carnivals in Britain. It
is a full fun-packed week of fun and includes a Grand Parade on Wednesday evening, which
includes over 100 floats, bands and majorette troupes.
At the centre of the town is a beautiful church and it is surrounded by a diverse range
of shops, restaurants, pubs and amenities. In the evening take a walk along the cliff top
and gaze out to sea, watch the sun set or wander the glorious gardens that line the cliff
top.
Sheringham
5 miles away is Sheringham which has been described as the Jewel of the North Norfolk
Coast and the Town Motto is 'Twixt Pine and Sea'. Its unspoilt beaches are some of the
finest in the country. In addition to the beaches you will discover wonderful woodland at
Pretty Corner and Sheringham Park a National Trust property which is stunning in late May
and Early June when the rhododendrons are in full bloom. It is an unspoilt town with a
wide variety of local enterprise and amenities and very friendly local people.
There is an excellent wide range of Shops, friendly Pubs and Clubs and Market every
Wednesday and Saturday. We have a superb choice of Restaurants, Bistros and Cafes.
Sheringhams long standing heritage in fishing stretches back to medieval days
with the launching of crab boats and lifeboats from Old Hythe to the West. Sheringham is
the only place in the world to possess four of its original lifeboats.
Holt
10 miles away is Holt, a small attractive town with many houses made of flint, a material
much used in this area. Old houses are huddled haphazardly in the heart of this little
market town. It takes its name from the woods that surround it dating back to Saxon times.
It offers a great range of amenities and a pleasant place to stroll around and take in the
charm.
You can wander the art galleries where there are exhibitions of contemporary paintings,
prints, sculpture and jewellery all year round. Browse through the many old-fashioned
shops hid away in the little alleys where a bargain may be found.
Between Holt and Edgefield the road drops and then rises again where the moraine of an
Ice Age glacier can be distinctly seen, it consists of gravel deposited by melting ice at
the foot of a glacier.
Holt Country Park offers several walks through shaded woods beside small ponds where
you can fish during the fishing season. Take your dogs for a peaceful walk, picnic with
your family or just enjoy a stroll.
Take a horse and cart ride to the station and catch the North Norfolk Steam Railway to
Sheringham.
